Housing construction project.
Under the housing construction project, Dharma Vijaya Foundation helps those who are living in extremely poor economic conditions to put up a shelter for them.
This was carried out in many ways in the past. When a large number of houses were destroyed and damaged during the Tsunami in 2004, Dharma Vijaya Foundation took the initiative to support more than 100 houses to construct new houses or repair them. In addition, they were supported with furniture, agriculture equipment’s for economic development, water pumps, bicycles, carpenter equipment and even establishing scholarship program for their children while distributing school books, bags, school uniforms and clothing. We were able to complete this project quickly and very successfully due to the support extended by many of our donors in abroad who work closely with the foundation for their social services based on the long standing trust.
There are many houses getting damaged and destroyed each year due to heavy rains and landslides compelling many families completely helpless. The foundation has helped them with dry rations, books, clothing etc. as an immediate relief in addition to supporting them for the reconstruction of their houses.
Under the program of developing poverty stricken villages, many activities are conducted covering the four areas of educational, economical, health and moral building. This includes the activity of providing financial or material support to construct a house for those who are selected from the low income earners of the village. This housing project takes a center stage in the program of strengthening the people in the village as it provides them a home with necessary minimum safety and health requirements. This program has been executed in many areas at present.
The other housing development project is constructing a house for a needy family selected upon a special reason. One such occasion is providing a house for a family in Thabbowa, Panasihagama to commemorate the …th death anniversary of most venerable Madihe Pannasiha thero. A child of that family has entered the monkhood and staying at Siri Vajiragnana Pirivena, Maharagama continuing his studies.
