Assistance provided by the Dharmavijaya Foundation’s ‘Sarana Sewa” Division for the flood-affected people of Ampara and Jaffna.
Due to the torrential rains that occurred in late November 2024, hundreds of thousands of people living around rivers, streams and canals were left helpless due to floods. For the innocent poor people affected by this disaster, under the ‘Sarana Sewa” division of the Dharmavijaya Foundation, arrangements were made on the advice of the Honorable Patron of the Dharmavijaya Foundation to distribute parcels containing dry food items worth Rs. 100,000/- . They were distributed amongst the flood-affected people in the area around the Naga Viharaya in Jaffna,
In addition, at the request of Venerable Poddiwela Chandananda Thero, the Incumbent of the Ampara Deeghavapiya Pariwara Chaitya Viharaya, the Uhana Divisional Secretary of Ampara District and Mr. N. B. G. Nanayakkara, our Treasurer, arrangements were made to distribute dry food parcels to farmers whose paddy cultivation was damaged by the flood. Accordingly, on December 20th and 21st, with the participation of several members of the Board of Trustees and staff of the Dharmavijaya Foundation, dry food parcels were distributed to 100 families affected by the floods in the Senagama area of Uhana, Ampara. In addition under the instructions of the Incumbent, dry food items, clothes, pens, pencils, children’s toys and other relief materials were distributed to 16 families of flood-affected children studying at the temple’s kindergarten.
It is also worth mentioning that cash donations made by Mr. Gallage De Silva, Mr. Dinil Premaratne, a life member of the Dharmavijaya Foundation and Mr. Sarath Dharmawardena, Vice President of the Dharmavijaya Foundation towards purchasing relief materials to be donated to the people of the Deeghavapiya area in Ampara. In addition, material assistance and money received from donors at the request of the Dharmavijaya Foundation’s Sarana Sewa Service Division were also used for this purpose.
